“Couldn’t be happier with how our team is taking to Netsuite. So much yet to do, so much promise in how much we plan to get done—we’re exactly where we need to be!” —Mick Mulhall, President
Challenge
Mulhall’s is a family-owned nursery and landscaping company that is committed to making Omaha, Nebraska a more beautiful place to live. Founded in 1956 by John and Maureen Mulhall, Mulhall’s has grown from operating out of a garage to a team of a few hundred people and an impressive facility that’s home to their garden and home shop, landscape services division, and farms where they cultivate a diverse palette of plants.
With their success, Mulhall’s began to feel the burden of maintaining Sage 100—their aging, outdated platform with years of technical debt embedded in deprecated code. It was no longer a viable option for effectively operating their four business units (retail, services, farm, and real estate development), in addition to internal shared services.
Long story short: Sage 100 was stifling their growth. With its third generation of leadership taking the reins, Mulhall’s was eager to invest in modern technology to help take the business to the next level.
“We appreciate the visibility NetSuite is giving into the Landscape business. We have 1,200 landscape projects in the system already and can create searches on related activity, which is extremely useful.”
Solution
The Mulhall’s team was seeking to transition to a modern, web-based system that would scale with their growth, increase productivity, improve visibility, support teamwork, accountability, and actionable insights. They were specifically considering NetSuite because it can be easily configured and customized, and unifies all key business processes in a single system. Additionally, it allowed Mulhall’s to transition away from a highly-customized ERP system and version lock that they were experiencing with Sage.
That’s where 360 Cloud Solutions came in.
As part of our comprehensive Business Process Review, 360 Cloud Solutions met with team members from Muhall’s various departments to better understand the business, existing processes, challenges, and opportunities. Using the insight gained, we were able to recommend NetSuite SuiteSuccess Manufacturing as the most cost-effective solution while also providing all of the functionality needed for the initial go-live. One of the biggest advantages of SuiteSuccess is the prebuilt roles and dashboards designed to streamline the implementation and speed-up user adoption.
To help achieve their goals, Mulhall’s implemented the following modules: Record to Report (OneWorld), Lead to Quote, Order to Cash, Plan to Production, Warehouse Operations & Inventory, Procure to Pay, and Asset Management.
Results
With the implementation of NetSuite, Mulhall’s was able to successfully build and operate a clearly defined data model supported by a thoroughly tested, cloud-native software stack. They have unified data and technology across business units, creating a scalable, competitive advantage. Additionally, Mulhall’s was able to refocus IT spend on business strategy and away from supporting and maintaining an aging infrastructure.
Mick also shared that while NetSuite “started as a component of our strategy, in a lot of ways has become its basis. And we got there in large part through our partnership.”
